This installation was created using excess paper from the Blandin Paper Mill in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Magazines produced from Blandin paper also served as raw material for the artwork. Representing a grove of trees, the sculpture corresponds to a tree in its natural state and a tree as a resource, a potential vehicle for knowledge. Located in Historic Central School, the installation is meant to prompt reflection on Grand Rapids’ logging history as it relates to the education of the community.

As a way to visualize the amount of paper currently produced at the Blandin Paper Mill, all of the paper used to make the sculpture is equal to 1 second of output from Machine #5 at the mill (approximately 850 square feet).
